IIRC when I had my dodgy switch I has to solder a jump lead between the bottom and middle terminals on both sides to get the switch to perform as it should
    £5 on itbeing your switch

Thank you - you were totally spot on there. Clearly a duff switch which works as it should if I bridge terminals 3 & 7 and 4 & 8. Well can you guess the supplier??............here's a clue ...RB.....:X:X:X... for which the PO paid £34.00.

So it will be out with the solder gun to modify it and all will be well.

    Another result for the forum.

You're very welcome, it's nice to get one right now and again.

But my puddle lights are also coming on with the switch modified. Anything I can do or am I going to have to live with it?

Afraid so; unless your fancy taking the switch apart. Be interesting to find out what Robsport do to the duff ones

Whilst Nick's solution sort of works it does mean that the puddle lights come on when you switch the interior lights on.

In an attempt to have the switch working properly I stripped it apart and I have identified the problem with these dodgy switches.

Terminals 3 & 4 are the constant terminals through the switch with each side of the switch operating independently (double pole). When the interior lights are switched terminals 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 are connected and then when the switch is off terminals 3 & 7 and 4 & 8 are connected. The problem with the switch is when in the off position as the connector inside does not make contact with terminals 3 & 4 and hence the interior and footwell lights do not come on when the doors are open.

The pivot point in the switch for the connector is too high so I used a dremel to reduce the height of the plastic pivot point so that it touches terminals 3 & 4 when in the off position. You have to be a bit careful mind but now the switch works perfectly. Alternatively I think that you could let a small amount of solder onto the top if the ends of terminals 3 & 4 inside the switch and this would achieve the same thing.

Now my switch works just as it should.

              Hi Nigel

To be fair to RB ,i boughta switch from TH and that was duff as well so i sent it back and got another duff one in return.I think there was a duff batch bought up by several suppliers as Robsport (i think)were selling them on ebay but said in the listing they had been modified to work as there was a problem with these switches.

Cleaned up my old switch in the end ,works no problem now.

              Cheers Steve
Hi, I also bought 2 switches which were both useless, sent them back, and ended up fixing the old one. Saved me £30.
