    Stainless steel bumpers

Hi all, probably going over old ground here but does anyone have any comments regarding Harrington stainless bumpers? I ran a search on them and found a few sites with lots of negative comments regarding the quality of the stainless. The comments were quite old so I would expect that maybe the quality issue has been resolved, but it would be nice to get your views. The price difference between them and wards would be worth going for them but then how does the quality compare?

    Thanks

    Paul

Harringtons supply Wards. The ones I've seen look great, side by side with fresh chrome then chrome wins, I doubt it would be the same result after a few years, modern chrome doesn't seem to last as well as it used to.

I've had them for nearly 2years. As others have said side by side with new chrome they lack the deep lustre and shine. On their own they look very good. I didn't have any problems with fitting. I live on the coast and chrome lasts 2 seconds before rust breaks through. My stainless bumpers still look good father two winters and no special care from me.

The only real negative is that stainless is softer than chrome and scratches more easily. That does mean that with some elbow grease it is possible to polish the scratches out.

I personally would thoroughly recommend them

I also have them good fit and no adverse comments, no one has ever said are they stainless, bought direct from Harringtons very efficient service, you have to order the rear plinth as an extra so read the advert.

You can read it on the advert but no need, they send you a "reminder" email if you don't ask for it up front.

              Hello,
I have got those on my 1976 TR6. Great quality!
The funny thing was, that Harringtons produce in Vietnam. When I ordered my bumpers, they only had the ones for early TR6s to offer. So I sent my old bumpers all the way to Saigon (on Harringtons' expenses by the way) and even got a discount on my new bumpers for my time and effort. I am very happy with the result.
              Kind regards,
              Dieter - from Germany

Mine are from Wards. The only criticism I have was the number plate plinth holes in the front bumper were not drilled correctly so the plinth cannot sit properly. I've 'hidden' the issue as best as possible. Haven't heard of the same issue from others. I would also suggest you buy the set of new mounting brackets/bolts as well, as quite frankly even though they are not openly visible, spending circa £800 on SS bumpers then fitting them with rusty yet serviceable brackets and bolts just doesn't look or feel quite right - my opinion of course.

                    Hello,

It is no real surprise that these bumpers sometimes differ - e.g. the position of holes. A TR-friend of mine was in Saigon on business. So he made the effort of visiting the local Harrington workshop. There he saw that the production is more of a manufacture than a factory. Most of the work is still done by hand and not by machines.

But then again, if you compare the gunsmith work in workshops at Kyber Pass, you would never believe that these guns ever shoot, but they do.

                    Have a nice Sunday,
                    Dieter.
