cylinder head

im going to recondition my cylinder heads, can some one tell me what order to do things in,they need welding, but should i clean them first and how

just been look on rimmers catalogue and is there any difference between the valve spring collar upper and lower

dave ive always bolted the heads down to a flat plate or clamped to a making table before welding ,this will act as a heatsink and minimise any further distortion.i also clean the affected areas with a die grinder fitted with a tungsten burr.
if its not cleaned to good material it wont weld .do not touch cleaned areas with anything after cleaning not even fingers .clean just before welding for best results.

the cylinder head i bought on ebay was a bear shell,i think i may have bought a pup as when trying to get parts for it some are no longer available

what i need is the lower valve spring collar

does any one know if the upper spring collar can be remade to fit, or any one got the lower ones

The lower spring collar is just a piece of pressed steel, PM me your address and I will post you 8, I have a few spare from a head I scrapped

the lower ones are flat a bit like a washer the upper are a lot thicker hope that helps

OK I was being a 'Numpty', seems to be a Fife thing. The upper ones obviously are machined for the collets.
