Electronic ignition alternative to Lumenition system?

Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Lumenition system that is straightforward to fit?

The low budget Accuspark/Powerspark types are easy to fit inside the dissy. Peter at LD Part Sells a similar one too but includes new base plate. I havent tried the Pertronix, but they look easy to fit and the Ignitor II is claimed to be a high spec one, comes with a higher price too. I think some of our members have the Aldon/Pertronix.

I have got the pertronix fitted. It hasn't missed a beat since I got it up and running - about three years now. You will have to adjust the timing after you have fitted it. It threw mine way out!

Due to Lumenition worries I fitted an 'Aldon Ignitor.'
Seems ok; not the cheapest of its type though.
There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.

It depends how much you want to spend and whether you want a high performance or just a basic ignition. The standard ignitor is a basic 'points replacement' system, whereas the Ignitor II is claimed to be a higher spec with dwell control. I dont know if the basic Ignitor is really any better than the Accuspark/Powerspark, but it is about double the price!!
I havent had an opportunity to test the Aldon systems as yet. Hoping to do a report at a later stage.

Thanks Chris. I have my fingers crossed that my problem is a new coil. The fuel pump was knackered but having replaced it I still have a problem...

Be careful with your coil choices. I picked up a County 12V Ballast coil when I was hunting a few misfires on my Stag. The problem it had was that unless the car was under the lightest load it would not accelerate past 3500rpm, where it would start to pop a little from the exhausts. The old Bosch Sports coil I took off went back on, and sure enough it runs like a dream with that (New it is also 4 times as expensive as the County item).

Regarding your question, it has pretty much been answered. I have used an Accuspark type system on my MGB (it was made by BritPart) with no issues. The 123 ignition is another way, but that is pretty much an entire new distributor and ££££.

Aldon/Pertronix Ignitors come at a lower-cost when ordered from retrorockets (http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/) - check your US$ exchange rate - they are sent from within the UK so no customs extras to worry about

Pertronix fitted and seems to be OK better than points?

I don't believe that points are too bad (they were fine on most of my old cars) as long as two provisions are met. That is the setting up of them (a dwell meter does help alot there (or at least I found it to) in comparison to setting it up via feeler gauges) in addition to the quality of the parts. The parts for me are the bugbear, with a number of condensers failing prematurely. With the Stag's P&C setup not being the cheapest around (but not the priciest either comparatively speaking) it is easy to see why Hall effect electronic systems (like the Accuspark et. al) are considered.

I don't normally get this kind of luck, but it turns out my knackered coil/knackered electronic ignition problem turned out to be just a poor connection way up behind the dashboard. Famous last words, but everything running fine now!

If anyone needs the services of an automotive electrician in the Reading and surrounding area I have found a real gem. An older chap who has worked on just about everything with wheels and no doubt a great many things without them as well. Just PM me and I'll happily pass on his details.

Great result. Electrickery is a black art to me so I imagine I will need your guy's help sometime.
