There'stwo o-rings, a large one and also one that goes inside the bolt hole. I have done this but can't remember if I took the front down pipe off first. ROM says it needs removing soI assume it stops thebolt from unscrewing fully.

I did it without taking anything else off ,mine's a manual might be different for an auto.you have to do it blind so be carefull not to pinch the o'ring other wise you get rather a lot of oil on the floor.(BTDT)

      Cheers Steve

I have just finished fitting the new oil seals to the oil transfer housing and I thought I would let you know how it went I firstly thought I would have to remove the exhaust but if you tattle it from the top its not to bad at all . I tried to get a socket on the retaining nut which can be seen but it wouldn’t fit because the oil sender is in the way .to remove this I managed to get a 7/16 spanner on the nut but couldn’t get the leverage needed to turn it so got granddads walking stick and pushed the spanner downwards his broke the seal on the thread and it came out easy . Next placed the socket on long extension with universal joint and removed the retaining bolt . Fitted the new seals held in place with a smear of grease refitted the housing and toped up the oil .Total job one hour and only swore twice once when I cut my hand and once when lots of oil went on the new drive I had the car jacked up at the front so the oil level was higher at the back of the engine (didn’t see that coming )going to test drive now to see if all is ok

                  John,

You seem to have a fair bit of oil in that area, is the rubber D seal that fits below the cam cover in good condition or the cam cover gasket?

                  regards,

                  Raoul

                    Hi Raoul

yes I think it is I think a lot of the oil also came from the rocker cover gasket ,that was leaking as well and running down
