Stainless Steel Silencer

I bought a stainless steel silencer in 1996 from a well known Triumph supplier near Lincoln because it came with a 'Lifetime guarantee' and had it fitted by my local Tyre and Exhaust garage. All has been well until March 2012 when I started the car and saw exhaust fumes coming from where they shouldn't. Further examination revealed a corroded split along the length of one of the tail pipes, between the hangers. Even further investigation revealed pitting and small holes in the pipe which connects the RH silencer to the tail pipe. Even further further investigation revealed that the rest of the system was sound. I telephoned the well-known Triumph supplier near Lincoln and gave them my invoice number. They have arranged for a courier to collect the parts tomorrow (Monday) to return them to the manufacturer. So far, I am impressed.

Yes but lets face it, the chance of being the original purchaser, and also having the invoice, after 16 years is pretty slim, I bet they where in shock!!
So I can't see any problem at all with them exchanging it.

The good news continues; The silencer parts were collected today by 'Night Freight' just as the well-known Triumph supplier near Lincoln said they wold be. They told me on Friday that this would be resolved within three days. That should be Thursday then. So far I remain impressed!

I have dealt with possibly the same Lincoln supplier for an incorrect part supplied. They exchanged it without issue . Their exhaust mounting kit was also a superior quality to another specialist I previously acquired rubbers from (they were so hard that despite being near impossible to fit they could probably cause personal injury!).

mmmmm! I have a stainless system with lifetime guarantee from the same supplier that I fitted to my Landy in 1995. Still have the receipt and the Landy and the exhaust system. Not had to claim yet but good to know that it looks like they will honour the guarantee - mind you the silencer still looks like new. Must admit I've never had any problems with them as a supplier over the years.

Well Thursday came and went, and Friday. No sign of my silencer parts and no word about what is happening. I telephoned the well-known supplier near Lincoln and they said there would be no-one working at the S/S exhaust suppliers works until Monday but they would phone them on Monday and get back to me. Until Monday then.

I returned home from gym to find a message on my answering machine from Paul of that well-known Triumph supplier near Lincoln. He told me that the manufacturers of the s/s silencer had 'tooling problems' which would not be resolved until Friday, so my parts would not be available until Monday at the earliest. I returned the call at 1.30pm with the intention of telling Paul that the manufacturers tooling problems were not my problems and if they could not repair the parts I would like them to replace them.

Toby (who also works for the same well-known supplier) had already made a phone call to the manufacturers saying more-or-less the same thing. Toby telephoned me back about 5 minutes later to tell me that new parts were waiting for me.
One hour later I was at the well-known Triumph suppliers near Lincoln and had collected the new parts.

That's great news - and a hint to keep receipts for "lifetime guarantee" things!

My Stag came with a "just fitted" stainless system from Rimmers (the stickers were still on the pipes!) and the chap had fortunately kept all receipts!

Although all the old hands know which supplier you mean, please spell it out for all to see. No reason why a "well known supplier near the Welsh border" can get named and praised but not a "well known supplier near Lincoln".

Muffled squeals of delight (Girl!) as the V8 expels the exhaust gasses through the end of the pipes and not along them! Real delight to report that the Rimmers guarantee does exactly what it says on the cans as far as stainless steel silencers are concerned. Thank you Rimmers. Thank you Paul and Toby.
Already sixteen years of service from the pipes and hopefully twenty more to go!
