Fire avoidance

Following poor allistair's unfortunate experience, I decided to check my fuel pipes from back to front.
I changed all the rubber pipes under the bonnet. The originals were showing signs of perishing.

When I checked the fuel lines in the boot I was concerned to find a short pipe with a spring connector on top of the tank going nowhere (photo attached) It's the short pipe on the left.

Can anyone please advise what this is for, where it should connect to?

Hiya, that's a PI return pipe for the 2.5 PI estate, same tank, it should be blanked off. Martin.
