Smoke from cable!!!!

Hi finally got my engine back together after skimming heads new water pump, timing chains etc etc im sure many ofyou have been there!!

All ready for the start up or so i thought, got good oil presure but not firing so far. not looked in to this to far yet as i noticed the kickdown cable smoking, i disconnected the battery and reconneted it again and it is still has smoke coming from the cable. I fitted the earth cable to the bottom PAS bracket bolt is that a good enough earth point or the correct one???

Has anyone come across this problem before or have i missed some thing!!

Paul,

Try connecting a 'jump lead' from the engine to the battery earth terminal. If the smoke stops, then you have proved the earth isn't good enough.
