is it me? why do people pay more for stuff on ebay for their cars, when they can get it cheaper and newer from a supplier???
i have been watching a pair or sun visors, they are up to 31 plus 4.99 carriage, still 3 days to go, you can get new for 45
some people have more cash than sense, or am i just an old fart who's getting tighter with the money

Auction fever is way too common.
The urge to "win" overtakes simple common sense - and people end up paying over the odds.......

      Hi Alan

      I'm with you on this.
I've noticed this several times, before I bid on anything, I do my homework first. I'd be gutted if I overpaid for something.

No one ever seems to get carried away with anything I ever sell - only stuff I want to buy!!

I have seen (and inadvertedly sold) stuff for the high prices that you state. A lack of research going of one supplier's prices (people really can be that lazy) are a few of the reasons that I put down.

Saying that I have scored a few bargains on ebay including a brake servo (£5), door handle surrounds (£2 from the same supplier) and a diff (quite a bit less than what other suppliers wanted for secondhand diffs and it was shotblasted and painted too ).

The key with ebay is how well it is described. If the description is right items tend not to go cheap on ebay, yet it is amazing how many people will fall at this first hurdle (I.E Dis servo woz gud wen I tuk it out of da car, I can deliver 2 u...).

I work out the max I'm prepared to pay, and then input into Powersnipe without placing a bid on the eBay site, just relying on the snipe engine to do it.

Keeps the price down, and prevents bid fever - if I lose, then items are like buses... there'll be another along in a minute....

Often wondered about this Powersnipe tool. What happens when two bidders use it on the same it em and input the same max bid?

Dunno, but sometimes I seem to lose without reason - I assume it's a sniping problem, but I can't complain as i am trying to cheat the system

I looked into using a sniper once but did not like the idea of giving them my password. Probably no logical reason to do that though.

Precisely why I use a relatively expensive paid subscription service. They assured security, and promised a superior service. They have fulfilled that admirably, and over the course of each year paid for themselves many fold in won auctions that have saved me loads, because bidding wars don't start ramping up the ante....

I love e bay but and did notice those sun visors and laughed. My rule of thumb is usually only pay half price for used when new is available. I bought my Hottub on e bay saving me £7000 for a quality used brand 18 months old. On my car I recently bought a complete set of horseshoes with excellent chrome for £24.
A nice as new looking seat adjuster for £1.99 the postage was more however
A snipe bid is ok but in the end you should bid your top price and not creap up as you go as I think it's pointless and inflates the price. I have just won a boot and won it £300 incl postage. The postage in this case is vital as picking up a boot could cost you your time and fuel. I bid £400 so I was happy plus I'm going to sale my repaired one that has filler but will describe it honestly.
Without e bay I wouldn't have the time to source these parts either but I still order from e j wards as some panels are a ripoff on e bay
                            Regards edd
