    Interesting indeed.

IMO a few photos of the repairs are needed, to help convince of metal / under paint quality.

If you were doing up shells for sale why would you sell them pre-painted? Surely it would be more sensible to sell them in primer. (No that wasn't a reference to white Stags )

I think you will find the seller is a forum member and I'm sure he will be able to answer any questions you may have. It's not me by the way.

Personally i think buying a pre painted shell takes away the point of restoring a car all the restorations on here i admire because the owners have tried there best and had a go. I am enjoying the highs and lows and it may not be perfect when finished but i can say i did that !
Understand not everyone likes body work and has the resources mind you !
              Regards Edd

He does say they take a while to do, and you can order one in the colour of your choice.

Considering how much can be spent on panels, welding and painting, this price does not seem to extreme. Would want to know what the painting process is though.

For owners with no bodywork skills this looks like a really cost efective way to go if they are as good as they sound. Look at it like this - it's only the cost of a what a respray would set you back AFTER you have had all the hardwork of cutting out rot, buying new panels, welding them etc etc.

I thought this was about bearing shells until I checked Fleabay. The shell looks pretty good but the colour doesn't look like sapphire blue to me but could just be the photos.

I thought TR and MG shells were brand spanking new and thus got around Doovla who allow the owner to hang onto the original ID. The Stag shells look to be shells with existing ID that have been repaired. Thus original ID or Q plate would apply if I read the DVLA site correctly.

The Heritage shells are new yes, but many an MGB do sport Californian shells whilst still using the original plate (However I understand that is a grey area).

It is possible to change the shell and keep the original number. The details are shown on the DVLA site and you need 8 points to keep the original reg.
2points each for steering, gearbox, axles and suspension and 1 point for engine making a max possible 9 without the shell. But it means if you have a rover engine and BMW back axle then you cannot legally get enough points to change the shell and keep the reg. Have been thru this procedure on another car

What happens if you change the engine or whatever at a later date? Trigger's broom comes to mind.

I have to say that whilst I am perfectly happy to attempt pretty much any mechanical or electrical procedure on a car, I totally am unable to do "bodywork", and so for me, the ability to obtain a good "new" shell would be valuable.

No everyone can wield a welding torch, nor sand filler back to a correct shape.
