    Water Pump Cover Identification

I have removed my water pump cover to replace the gasket. The inside face was a bit 'grotty' so I went to Google images to see what it should look like. I discovered

A very informative article, worth bookmarking. From the article it would appear that I have a 12 vane pump cover that has been machined for a 6 vane pump. My pump is 6 vane and was replaced by a 'reputable' garage about 3 years ago. From the wear on the inside of the pump cover I do not think that the machining was done at that time, it ma even be the original casting.
The pump cover says 88217993, Stanpart, PBM.
So if you have a 12 vane pump cover you do not necessarily have a 12 vane pump.

Reduced Road Tax? Chance would be a fine thing!
Peter, from your photo you have a 6 vane cover. The 6 vane cover has the part number 88217993 on it. The 12 vane cover doesn't.

Hi Alan, I was going by information from the ISOA website which states :=
The six-vane pump cover has STANPART cast into the side of the cover facing the right cylinder head, and LUNASC in the side facing the left cylinder head. The 12-vane pump cover has STANPART and PBM cast into the top of the cover.
          It also states :-
The main intake on the six-vane pump cover is flush with the heater return connection. On the 12-vane cover, the main intake extends about 1/2" further from the heater return connection.
Accapted I have the part number for a 6 vane pump but I also have all the requirements stated above for a 12 vane pump.
          Regards
          Peter
