Retro sound speaker in front dash

I replied to a thread a while ago and posted my method of fitting a Retrosound dual voice speaker in the front dash. Very happy with the results I promised to post a picture of the speaker in position. A long time later, here it is.

I just ordered mine from EBAY. RetroSound is in fact the company producing them.

I'm going for this too. I had speakers in the doors, but never happy with it and experiments with some high-line tweeters didn't work. Cubby hole speakers are fine though.

I forgot to mention this: They have a adapter plate that makes it easier to fit (much wider than the standard plate, nice base for modification), I saw this in a advertisement video for the "Stereo" Speakers from RetroSound. When I asked them about it they included the adapter plate at no extra cost.

I like the solution from John4D by the way, this can of course not be done with the adapter plate.

I've just cut and paste my previous post, hope it helps.

I assure you, it will fit, mine did honest! It is a tight squeeze though, unlike the original, the speaker is fitted to the under side of the dash's speaker opening, there is just enough room to push the speaker in from the top, narrow edge to the opening's wide gap and turn once in, pushing back up from below. The glove box will need to be removed, believe me. I refined someone else's idea, who wrote on this forum with some pictures, unfortunately I didn't take any as I fitted mine.

I made four small adapter plates to marry between the speakers fixing holes and the dash's. They have nuts welded over holes at 20mm ctrs, two at one end one at the other. Hopefully the attached sketch will help. The plates, double nut end, was fitted to the top of the speaker fixing tabs by screws from what would be the under side of the speaker, before inserting it into the dash, orientating the plates as closely as possible bringing the inner fixing holes in alignment with the centres of the dash's fixing holes, minor adjustment to suit was achieved afterwards but the plates shouldn't be loose, we don't want any rattles. Electrical connections were made while the speaker was loose beneath the dash. Four screws from above were passed through the dash's fixing holes in to the inner fixing points to pull up the speaker to it final position, if you chose this method please ensure the length of these screws are short so as not to make contact with the speaker cone. Then with the top grill fascia fitted it was finished!

The red outline is the speaker, fixing centres and plates. The black being the existing opening and fixing centres.
                    Regards
                    John

For those who have tried it - do you think it would it be easier to squeeze the 6x4 in instead of the 7x5?

I ask - because having waited two and a half weeks for my 7x5 to arrive from Moss, I emailed them. Now out of stock, and not expecting any more - though you can still go on the website and order one. Duh..............

Classic Car Stereo do the 6x4 but not the 7x5.

                      Thoughts anyone??

The 6x4 is not a dual voice speaker so won't work very well.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

So - I've been looking at Retrosound's International dealer database. I work regularly in Germany, and have work colleagues there. If (and it is if) I can get a handful from Germany - does anyone want me to get one for them?
