Spraying in Damp Weather

As I abandoned the trip to Wkye down today because the weather and forecast are miserable I was thinking about putting the top coat cellulose on my hard top .Is it ok to do it in high humidity conditions the garage is dry but unheated or would I be creating problems for a decent finish.

And while I have your attention.

My new soft top material is so tight it took an hour of fiddling to get it up would leaving it in the rain under tension make it easier for the future or make it shrink causing more problems.

Peter. Painting in damp weather is asking for trouble as it is almost certain to bloom over as it dries. Leave it for a warm dry day. As for the soft top, it shouldn't be that tight. Too much tension is very likely to distort the frame, apart from being a pain every time you want to put it up. If someone fitted it for you, I think you should take it back and get them to re-position the material on the frame correctly. It should fasten easily at both ends, but not flap at speed! Mike.

Hi Peter, you may well get away with painting if you use anti-bloom thinners. As for the hood, yes, get it wet and leave it up while it dries, if that doesn't work, as Mike says, go back to the supplier. Martin.

If your using cellulose you would need anti bloom thinners.

If you dont have that and go ahead anyway then you will get a white bloom on your finished paint which will then need tee cutting out and polishing. (It can be done with good results but takes much more work)

The alternative is to heat up your garage and then dehumidify it.... waiting for a warm dry day might be a long wait!

Thanks for you comments I have only standard thinners so will delay till I have some antiibloom thinners as the hardtop is taking up most of the garage the hood is well and truly wet what a day if it dousnt go up easily next time I feel a visit to Chris in Walton coming on ( by appointment ).
