Boot adjustment

    Boot adjustment

    Hi. Before I fit my replacement boot can I ask what adjustment there is and any short cuts. I understand the normal horizontal and vertical is there any movement on the hinge for side to side. Do I drill out the hinge to form more side to side movement or ( hate to say it ) apply gentle persuasion the the hinge
    Your thoughts and expieriences would help me.

        It's a case of doing what you have to do Edd, nothing wrong with making some unorthodox adjustments. The only thing I would say is set it without a boot seal fitted then fit the seal, most of the new pattern ones are wrong and too firm and cause problems, like a few others I have been down this road and reverted to fitting the old original one again.

          Yes I have read the forums on seals and to me elongating any holes is fine as if this one is anything like the one before I will need to go sideways. I think the hinges are prob left well alone.
          Keep any ideas coming. And please no pictures of perfect boots I might start crying

            I don't think that I've seen many perfectly fitted boot lids on a Stag, perhaps as Ian says, the repro seals aren't any good.

            Mine is by no means perfect, so I'd be interested in any tips too.

              You can have a picture of mine if you like. It will make you think you've done a good job (although I'm sure you will anyway!)

                there is some movement in the bolt holes on the rear panel boot latch for up/down movement.

                  That O/S line at the wing tip would drive me Mad Peter, have you tried playing with the adjustment.

                    i had a play tonight with the new boot with a little help from my daughter , the whole car will be stripped further at present i am just getting panel shut lines sorted hence the need for doors to remain operational .
                    pleased with the fit , one concern was the arc of the boot , as it come up it was dreadfull close to the inner panel , ie back of the soft top , of you notice i litterally took some of the paint off to see the thinkness as i am going to strip to bare metal.
                    the boot sits good on all four corners but must say the arc of the boot by the wing is slightly out , ummm am i tempted to build these areas with a small amout of filler. No filler in boot at present some surface rust and great lips and underside .

                        It's on the jobs to do list. To be honest I haven't even tried adjusting it in the 9 months I've owned it.

                        Here is a couple more photos of "exhibit A m'lud"

                        It seems to be a fraction too high on the offside - I'm assuming that the o/s hinge is adjustable?

                          I'm not sure about the hinge Peter but it can be lowered where it bolts to the boot itself. (the ones that go in side ways)
