    Overdrive solenoid

Ok, I've made a special spanner, which any one local can now borrow, and removed the solenoid. I wired it directly to the battery and discovered that there is life in the thing, only not as much as I anticipated and soundlessly.
Can anyone tell me how much movement there should be?

I assume you have a J type solenoid. I don't think there is any external movement, just a valve opening inside which makes a small click. I did take one apart years ago but can't really remember what I found

Yes Neil there is an internal piston. Mine looks as if it only moves about 1mm, a small amout dont you think. There are two rows of ports which must have some part to play but I can see any sign of a port opening for example. Any one else help?

External movement is small. Buckeye Triumphs site has a lot of detailed information. Open this page and scroll towards the bottom http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/techn.../JOD1/JOD1.htm
