Between 1985 and 2000 regularly went to Malta on holiday, to a little known resort called Birzebuggia.
The Maltese love old British cars and some Maltese people we knew told us they flew to the U.K. Car Auctions,
and would then drive their purchases all the way back to Malta. The Maltese buses are also something to behold -
American models from the 60's but still going strong.

          Hi Terry

I think you will find that Arriva have taken over the bus routes in Malta within the last 12 months and shipped out a load of old (10+ year old) UK buses to replace the vintage fleets as illustrated in your photo.

          Cheers

Shame about the Buses - they were part of what gave Malta it's charm.
You will be telling me next that they no longer brew "Cisk" and "Hopleaf" or serve "Lampuka" and Swordfish" in Restaurants.
I believe also the Maltese Lira has now been replaced by the Euro - I wonder if that has pushed prices up?

the beers still there Terry, so is the food, although expensive in ST Julian and Valletta, its all the euro now, and prices are high, about 4 euros a pint of cisk, but if you go to Buggiba you can get a pint for 2 , it just depends on where you are and what quality and service you want , we stayed in the Hilton and it was 6.50!!!!
still we had a good time, and the people were great so was the food

It used to be fairly cheap when I was last there - but that is 12 years ago, and Birzebuggia was not geared to Tourists so you paid the same price as the locals. €4 for a pint of Lager is 4 times what I pay for a pint here in Los Cristianos. There were lots of Triumph Heralds around when I was there, and MGBs, but I never saw a Stag. Did you notice that the locals drive on the side of the road where the shade is - whether it be on the left or the right - fun motoring!

I am headed to Malta at the end of July for a week. I was going to hire a car to go up to Gozo but after the comments on here regarding the way the Maltese drive I think I might give it a miss! I will keep an eye out for any classics though!
