    Fuel tank pick up pipe

    Does anyone have a photo or could describe how the bottom of the fuel pick up pipe in the fuel tank looks. A friend has described the bottom of the pickup pipe as having the opening on the side of the pipe and not at the bottom.

    Thanks

    The bottom of the pipe is capped. It is shaped as if someone has welded a disk in the end and smoothed it all off, if you see what I mean. There is a small hole very near the bottom on the side as you described above. The pipe is a very tight fit in the tank, I snapped off the pipe where the hole was. I have found that in the new aftermarket tank I bought, the bottom of hte tube doesn't reach anywhere near the bottom of hte tank. Something I intend to rectify at some point! At the moment, there is about 5-10 litres of fuel in the bottom of my tank I can't use which isn't good!

    I will see if I can dig out some photos later this evening If I remember.

      Was this a new Ally tank Dave or an original type one?

        Hi Dave
        A photo wouldbe great as I am installing throttle body fuel injection on my Stag and need as much flow as I can get through the 5/16 pickup pipe. it sounds as if I will need to open that little hole up to 5/16

        Thanks

          Dave L;
          When I fitted fuel injection to my Stag I designed and had made an adaptor that fitted to the bottom of the tank so as the fuel is gravity fed to the pre-pump filter mounted on the rear healboard. I then ran a new 10mm OD copper pipe to the engine bay for the fuel feed, that allowed me to use the original plastic fuel feed as the return to the tank from the regulator.

            I had trouble with fuel pickup the tank had about 8cm depth of fuelbut the pump would not pick it up on checking the tank appears to have a well or simmilar buit in so when the car is level fuel can not reach the pickup pipe when driving the fuel will moove about and flow into the well. any thoughts or comments on this

              There is a "well" on original tanks, to ensure that the pick up was always submerged in fuel, there are slots in the bottom to feed fuel in. If it is not filling up, maybe they are blocked?
