I Started the car up yesterday after refitting the cylinder heads. There was some smoke coming from the RH exhaust manifold so, as it was on axle stands, I got underneath to get a better view. That was when I noticed fuel leaking onto the LH exhaust. I made a quick dash to switch off the engine with thoughts of Alistair's post in my mind. Fuel was leaking from the rubber join between the plastic and the copper pipe. I returned this morning thinking of the effects of ethanol fuel but when it was stripped down I could see that it had the same problem as me 'Old Age'. The pipe was brittle and cracked in places. No doubt caused by it being directly above the exhaust. Definitely worth checking at your next service.
