I have just found out that my stag has been filled with synthetic 10-40 oil prior to me purchasing it. I am nearly ready to put it back on the road and I'm wondering if I should leave this oil in or change it for a 20-50, and if so what type.
Regards
Steve
When I got my Stag a couple of months ago I had no idea what oil was in there (PO didn't know-it was his late father's car). On the drive home oil pressure was around 20. One of the first things I did was change the oil to VR1, now the oil pressure is 40. That may help you make your decision - for £30 inc filter and 15 minutes work I think its a no brainer.

Hi Steve, 10/40 is too thin for an engine from this era, aside from anything else, it drains away from the camshaft buckets, and you wind up starting with a dry top end, 20/50 leaves a pool of oil which does it's thing when you start. Valvoline VR1 sport 20/50 is about as good as it gets. No, I'm not on commission Martin.
