    Leather

Ha anyone on the forum had leather treatment ? (their car that is!)

I would like an upholsterer to transform my stag from plastic.

    This means:

    - the top bit immediately above the dash
    - the doors (inner, naturally)
    - the seats and the back and other bits.

I would like to have it in ivory (white).

    So....

Anyone had that work already and (gulp) how much was it?

    Ta

            Stimpy,

My leather cost me £3400.00 including T bar, dash, centre consul. if you just want the seats and 4 cards plus cover it would be £2400.00 see in SOC mag Jim Vangent, I had to travel 170 miles each way to get it done and only took 2 weeks i'm well pleased with his work all the best, WillIMG_2120.jpgIMG_2122.jpgIMG_2123.jpgIMG_2133.jpgIMG_2135.jpg

              Spot on! (well just over)

He won't be doing the dash top because he doesn't want to collapse the dash unit area -= plus they're meant to be matt black to cut sun blindness when driving toward the sun.

Forgot about the T-bar - might see if that raises the cost.

He's over booked - but I'm in during June.

Thanks for your post WB 50 Its nice to see what can be done & for how much.

stimpy, what was the 'dash-collapse' concern?

He didn't want to dismantle the dash to leatherise the area.

He didn't want to 'mess' with electrics - so therefor no removal of various things. In fact you have given me an idea - why don't I do that and he will be ok

I think that's a wise idea. I had to do some fiddling with a few wires to get everything working 100% after I had new wood/dash fitted - the wire to the temp gauge (!) had come adrift, as had a wire to the electronic ignition box. With so much 'spaghetti' behind there it's easy to knock/nudge a wire and only find out once you've put everything back together again! All fixed now though...

Had mine done completely and for sensible money by Transcal in Livingston, Edinburgh. Really pleased with their workmanship. Care needed in various places re the extra thickness from leather rather than vinyl leading to tight fitting of various components. Don't think you could do a decent job of the dash without removing and dismantling it - not such a disastrous job. Same applies to the T bar. I even got the kneepad on the parcel shelf done and it looks excellent. If you want any more info, send me a PM. Here's some pictures.

                        Good luck

Highly recommend Jim Vangent. Did a great job on our Stag's total restoration. Complete new Interior in Scottish leather. Rugs in Welsh wool. Car is now resident in Switzerland bounding over the alpine passes.
White eh? Thought about the cleaning bill? Also White on the dashboard might be a bit of a dangerous thing in brilliant sunshine. Black absorbs light, white reflects it, could reflect right into your eyes at just the wrong moment. Leather on a dashboard has a nasty habit of drying out and cracking after a few years if you do a lot of summer sunny day driving. Of course that might not happen in England, certainly doesn't happen in Scotland!!

                            update-

Some good hints and tips- ta.

I've found a vehicle upholster literally a half hour walk from me - so its in on 11-june.

I'm crossing my fingers that he will do a good job. The fact that he has a backlog makes me feel more comfortable.

Quick Question to you all -

How do you remove the centre console (the bits with the window switch gear lever etc) as I really thing that needs to be done even if the dash doesn't.

Also would you expect the vendor to supply the foam or should I get it?

                            Thanks again!

Centre console is a wee challenge in itself. You need to remove the parcel shelf bolts from the left hand side first. Then get something like a thin paint scraper or similar and carefully lever up the plastic strip that joins the two veneer panels in front of the gearstick. This will reveal two screws on either side holding the console down on to the transmission tunnel. Remove these and then find the two nuts and bolts holding the console to the dash above the radio slot. Remove these and I think you will then find that you can gently pull out the console. You then need to remove all associated switches and wiring to get it out completely - label EVERY wire !

From my recollection, that's about it, but others as usual will be more knowledgeable. Good luck !
