    Battery Isolator

    Hi

Just wondering if anybody has installed a Battery Isolator Switch and if so how easy was it and where have you located the switch - engine bay or cabin?

    Thanks

    Jon

Hi Jon, welcome to the forum, maintain sense of humour and there's a lot of good stuff on here. I like the Discarnect type, attached to the battery, slacken the thumbwheel and it's isolated, take the wheel with you and it's secure Martin.

I had my battery isolator mounted on the drivers side wall.It is great there as when I leave the car I can turn the switch off, close the bonnet and know that the car is secure. Also know that the battery wont be flat because the radio or glovebox havent been turned off or closed properly. I have the same as Martin as well. Easy to fit. Only risk is that you get a Stag thief with savvy who has a suitably sized bolt in his pocket. I fitted mine more for saftey when left in the barn, rather than anti theft.

Mine's a removable "Key" on the Earth cable that I have attached to the engine lifting "lug" above the power steering.
If leaving the car standing for any length of time - simply remove the key and hide it away somewhere (not in the car).
Got it from a Car Accessory shop.

One of these was fitted to my Stag, in the triangular hole in the inner wing beside the battery, when I bought it: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/B..._Version_BSSTD

Soon removed it and fitted a Discarnect with a fuse by-pass to keep the radio memory supplied. If anyone wants the one I removed they are welcome to it. (Assuming I can still find it of course )

This seems like the same product, but nearly £10.00 cheaper! And free delivery.

The only problem with them, is that battery posts are tapered and the clamp isn't, but judicious use of a large screwdriver sorts that one. Martin.

I lose electric power sometimes when I switch the ignition on and find the Discarnect needs a tighten down.

That's exactly the one I've got on mine - but like I said mine is attached to the lifting lug.

Mine was already fitted. It's inside the car in the driver's side footwell to the right hand side off the steering column. You can't see it if you don't know it's there.
