I have been following the threads on fitting a Header Tank and decided to go ahead with a DIY version. I bought a Volvo header tank from a scrappy and located on the nearside suspension housing. I now need tee pieces and hoses to connect up. However, I have a few questions:
1. The header tank has a plastic screw cap - not a pressurised cap - is this ok?
2. Do I still need the existing overflow bottle (which has a pressure cap)?
3. I presume that the branch from the top hose goes to the bottom of the header tank and the top connector on the tank goes to the pump to heater hose, not the other way round - or does it matter.
4. If the header tank is not full then the top connector will be above the fluid level. Is this right?
I also notice that some of the proposed mods featured in the forum take the supply from the radiator top blanking boss, so that you don't have to take a branch off the top hose. However, my boss touches the insulation on the bonnet and does not allow any space to take a branch off from here. In fact, where I have located the header tank, it is in line with the suspension top turret and is touching the bonnet insulation, and is only just high enough. Is this normal?
