Hazard warning switch - wiring plug

Been digging around under the dash on my new car and discovered why the hazard lights dont work - the (stag) switch isn't plugged into anywhere. It has the right triumph plug on the end, but I'm damned if I can find the other plug end (on the loom) to plug it into............ should the "socket" be right there behind the dash? (along with a hazard relay (can't see that either!)

My car is an L, body no LD 21000+ it has a MK2 dash (with the original hole for the hazard switch) and I think its original - so I don't think I have a "camel". But the Haynes wiring diagram doesn't show a hazard switch/circuit (page 151 I think is the right page (UK, heater, RHD)

    What am I missing?

Also - wipers - the relay board has a wiper delay relay, but I can't figure out what position the switch should be in for the delay to work - I need to test and see if it actually works -

    Help please!

Alistair, It may be that your instrument panel has been replaced in the past.
I changed mine recently and had to connect it to the loom.
Have a look at my website for a description. http://www.grampianstags.net/hazard.htm

Your wiper delay isn't fitted to a Mk 1. To operate it put the stalk in the Off position and then pull it towards you. If it doesn't move you have a Mk 1 If it does they should go into intermittent mode.
    Hope that helps.

My car, on a M plate 1/1/74 and is LD2539**** does not have Hazards so I suspect your car has been fitted with a later dash.

        Hi Alistair

The Mk 1's do not have hazard flashers as standard equipment, so I wouldn't expect you to find either a connector on the loom or the hazard flasher relay in your car.

Mine didn't have those parts either. I bought a hazard relay from Paddocks for a few quid, and some correct colour cable from Autosparks to match the Mk II wiring diagram. I did have a bit of bother trying to get a Triumph 6 way connector, and although I found one, it had the wrong colour cables - didn't match either the hazard switch or the Mk II wiring colours, so I bought a 6 way connector (male and female parts) and replaced the Triumph connector with that.

It's not a difficult job once you get your head around the wiring diagram I sent to you. Hardest part was actually wiring and assembling the connector! The rest was straightforward.

        Cheers

Yes but that could have been added at a later date.
Does your wiper stalk move towards you? If not the relay is not required.

              Hi Alistair,

The hazard lights weren't fitted until LD30000, whereas the wiper delay came in at LD20000.

My car falls in between these numbers. I guess yours has had a later instrument panel fitted at some time.

in response to a plea this week (on the site) for "chains" to be finished off with the solution/conclusion.......

it seems that I have a Stag 1.5 - I do have the wiper delay as original, but no hazard wiring (albeit a Stag 2 dash, with a hazard hole/switch).

The only thing I haven't sorted out still is wiring the switch into the circuits............... not because I don't know which wire goes where, but because I still haven't sourced a suitable 6 pin plug to suit that on the switch............ so if anyone knows where to get one (low priority!)

Hi alistair, I ended up using a completely different commercially available connector (male and female parts) and wired the hazard switch into that. Will look out the supplier and part number etc tomorrow. Mine has been working fine since I installed it all.

                        cheers

Try autosparks.co.uk - go to 'plugs & connectors' or vehicle-wiring-products.eu go to 'connectors' or autoelectricsupplies.co.uk go to 'terminals and connectors '

Bear in mind that, if your car wasn't fitted with hazards originally, the wiring isn't entirely straightforward as operating the switch actually interrupts the power flow to the ordinary flasher unit.

                          Good luck.

                          Cheers

Hi Alistair, Looked up my records. I chose a Superseal connector C 886 from Autosparks (in the Plugs and Connectors section, then SuperSeal Plugs), then wired the hazard switch into that, then used the standard Mk 2 stag wiring colours from the connector to the relay and indicators etc as per the diagram I sent you a while ago. I had difficulty getting the female end of the standard type connector, and although I did obtain one, it only had short wiring tails, so rather than connect 6 wires to the tails, I opted for a new plug altogether.

                            Cheers

I had that too after my divorce. All sorted now.
