    clutch friction plate

Hi all can somebody advise me as to which way round the friction plate goes in ,I have installed mine with the longer side facing the gearbox and after putting it all back together I have no clutch at all even though the slave cylinder is moving the cross shaft about 15mm ,I have bled the clutch as described by others and still have no clutch at all.any Ideas ?

There is clear writing on a friction plate to tell you which way round. It will say 'Flywheel this side'.....usually

Hi Frostie, The manual says on page 33.10.01 to 'fit clutch driven plate with longer boss of hub facing flywheel'
Not sure what you mean by longer side? If you mean the boss, it may be the wrong way?

        Cheers Johny

Andrew , I do not remeber any writing on it but I guess iwill have to remove it all again ,as I cannot engage any gears even though the crossshaft is moving under hydraulic pressure ,but is much to stiff to move by hand .I have read the reply from johny which says the longest side of the boss should face the flywheel .If I manage to get it sorted maybe see you at the club night I have not been for a couple of years unfortunatley .

A bit of thread revival here. I just unpacked my Borg & Beck clutch plate and discovered the first clutch plate I've ever seen where it doesn't say "FLYWHEEL SIDE" on it!

To make matters worse, the ROM says install with the longest nose piece towards flywheel and then shows a diagram with the shortest extension towards the flywheel.

Reading the stuff above, it seems that this is the correct orientation: (confirmations / refutals most welcome!)

              As the ROM shows:

My fingers are on the flwheel side:

You are looking at the Flywheel side:

Hi all, I recently had my engine and box apart and when I re fitted the clutch I am fairly sure that the friction plate would only fit in one direction as the boss of the plate fouled on the flywheel in the other direction. I do hope that I am right as I don't fancy hauling it all back out again. Maybe I have an unusual friction plate, it came from Paddocks. Fingers crossed!

                Regards

                Paul

                  Hi guys
Paul is right the plate will only go one way, the right way and the plate fits against the flywheel, the wrong way and the plate will stay proud of the fly wheel

Dont take it all apart again without making sure the slave is working properly..

Also is your cross shaft fork attached properly and not just turning on the shaft..

Yes guys, you're right! Just went out to the garage and it won't fit properly (or even at all) if it's the wrong way around. It seems that any fears that the clutch isn't working OK are therefore unlikely to be allayed by turning the friction plate around.

                            Hi Paul
Have a look as staginhiding is saying and make sure all is ok on the outside of the box first, if all ok you may still have to take her out yuck.

                              Paul.
Dont forget to put the slave cylinder on the gear box side of the mounting flange otherwise you wont have enough throw and no clutch.
It makes it a pain to bleed!!
                              Paul.
