auto gear change

hi guys ,need a bit of help ( again ) stag runs and sounds good ,the problem i am having is the gear change from second to third , it wont change up unless i get it to near forty mph ,which is a bit of a nuisance especially in the pocket area when driving around town or in slow moving traffic , have checked the oil and that is ok , is there any adjustment on the box anywhere to alter the gear change ,

Hi Andy,

if you back off the accelerator it should change up at that speed have you tried this

The kickdown cable is about the only adjustment you have. The BW35 has allways (to my knowledge has always been a bit lazy to go into top, I run mine up to about 35 back off the throttle a bit and up it changes.Graham

I cannot comment since I have never driven a BW35 Stag but how is your kickdown adjustment looking? Does it go into top when you come off the accelerator and what colour is the gearbox oil?

When warm, my old girl will select top on a light throttle at under 25mph. Your kickdown cable is busted or badly out of adjustment, a nice easy job - provided it's not busted Martin.

You could also have a sticky governor...... the simplest way of finding out if its cable or governor is to check the gearbox oil pressure...

I used to have a sticky governor but then he gave me the sack

thanks boys , i get her up to 32/35 back off and it will change up , when warm it will change around 30mph ,the oil is red , reading the replies , mine is not too bad , the other problem is do i eat today or take her for a drive round , i love it , i get lots of comments ,
