    Starter Solenoid removal

My first post on the forum. I'm having what sounds like a familiar starting problem. Starts from cold beautifully, drive off and park. Come back to car, turn key and nothing happens, not even a click! Going to investigate ignition switch and starter solenoid but wanted to know if I can remove just the solenoid to clean up all the contacts before I tackle the starter motor!

Welcome to the forum, yes you can , you may have the famous Stag click a lot of owners have wired a relay (including me) into the starter circuit because the ign switch contacts get tired and the solenoid pull a fair bit of power. Graham

If there is NO CLICK and your car is an auto then it is more likely to be the inhibitor switch on the gearbox. Next time it happens move the gear selector backwards and forwards a few times and make sure it is in PARK or NEUTRAL before you try and start the car. This exercises the switch and if it is a bit sticky usually clears the fault temporarily. If this cures it first check the switch is correctly adjusted, if it is then a replacement will be required at some point as it will fail all together.

Should have said, it's manual. So if I undo the two bolts that appear to connect it to the starter motor and the power strap, I should be able to lift it away and examine it?

If you get no click, its probably not the solenoid.
