New Niki LAuda biopic - "Rush"

Basically it's a biopic of Niki Lauda and is supposed to have a high degree of realism, although not a huge budget. For the race scenes the owners of surviving classic F1 cars weren't too keen to lend their own, so working replica's have been made. I have been talking to RPI (Rover V8 specialists as a lot here will know) and they supplied the engines for two of the cars. Apparently they do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds (can't remember the torque figures) but due to some oily reasons related to G-forces, oil starvation seems to be an isssue and already a number of engines (not necessarily the rover unit) have already failed.

That would make sense Al - maybe you should shoot down there in the Stag and get some dosh for being in a crowd scene!

They showed some clips from it and interviewed the lead actors and Director in the build up to the Monaco GP at the weekend. I got the impression lots of owners of classic racing cars wanted their cars used and they had lots of original cars in the film.
The story is the rivary between Lauda and James Hunt.

Didn't one of the original Lauda cars get wrecked at Snetterton being warmed up prior to filming - think I read that somewhere.

Looks like a must, thanks for that. If Ron Howard's directing it'll be a cracker ! Shame about James Hunt's Aussie accent, but I guess I could cope Martin.
