Kenlowe Fan - When does yours kick in?

    Hi
For those with Kenlowe type fans fitted, dependant on the kenlowe stat setting, have you seen your fan 'kick in' ?
What cut-in temperature do you set your dial to?
The only time I have seen/heard mine cut in was a recent motorway trip to wales.

Never and thats running in a 97 switch fitted into the radiator not the type that goes under the hose.

I've got a small flashing light inserted in the dash wired to tell me when the fan is working. I run a programmable ECU and i have the fan set to come on at 98c & off at 92c

I have a Revotec variable temp 70-120 c switch fitted into the rad (see below). After taking the temp reading from various parts of the engine (top hose ,cylinder heads, block, rad) with an Infra red temp sensor I set the temp on the switch to about 97.The Kenlowe as yet has to come on since I fitted the external water pump.
Prior to the ex water pump it use to come on now and then.
I sometimes check it works by adjusting the temp down on the switch and the kenlowe comes on.

I set my fan to come on when the temp gauge needle reached the top of the M in TEMP. I was running with an 82 degree thermostat wich normally ran with the needle on E. That expired, so I tried fitting an 88 degree stat, it now runs on the M, and the fan now cuts in when I have been stationary for about 15 seconds rather than the couple of minutes it took to warm up with the 82 degree stat.
I have no mechanical fan fitted, all cooling is via airflow or kenlowe

I'm running with an 88 stat and temp gauge stays the same as when I had an 82 stat but I have got the viscous fan as well .

Wow, you boys are so techie! It's something I have wondered about as mines got a Kenlowe and no viscous fan. It cuts in quite often, and I have no idea what 'stat is in the rad. I gave a disk mounted on the front panel and just leave it with N sort of horizontal - have no idea if that's right.

I'm with you Pisc. It sounds like I have the same set up as you re the Kenlowe fan. Mine is set on N and comes on occasionally in very hot weather if I've been for a long run. The temp needle never reaches more than a little under halfway. I say 'think' because I am assuming that the setting point is directly ahead inline with the screw holding on the setting dial?

Simple, if it overheats it's wrong

I have one of those disk things in a box that came with my Stag.. I had no idea what it was until reading this thread

Mine had a Kenlowe fan wired to be permanently on when I got it.. it was a 13" fan mounted in front of the radiator. I replaced it with a 16" Flexalite fan about a month ago, and added a programmable switch at the same time. It comes on at 95C and goes off 90C.. it runs about a 50% duty cycle if the car sits idle for a long time.

Since rebuilding my water pump and re fitting my engine fan with a new viscous coupling my kenlowe hasn't kicked in, in in the great weather we had the other week on a run to Barmouth. I have a rovotec sensor like Sukh and adjusted to about 97 degrees. I also have a 4 core rad (which has sprung a leak)
