    A pillar rubber seal

    It's stupid question time.

When I got my car it had no seal on the rear edge of the screen rain channels on the A pillar (not sure I've explained that clearly, but it's the 'P' section seal that buts up against the front of the stainless door frame)

I'm eventually getting round to fitting some, but I'm not sure which way they should go

I can see a case for the loop of the 'P' being inboard, up against the main door seal, as well as to the outside, sealing the gap between rain channel and door frame.

So guys, which way should it go ? Help please

    Cheers

    Julian

    Hi Justin, sorry, Julian

I did have a diagram of how it should fit but can't find it. The seal fits so that the flat section sticks to the underside of the drain channel and butts up against the main seal flange so that the round section acts as a seal between the door frame and the rain channel. If that makes sense. When fitted it looks like it is part of the main door seal.

            Brilliant - Thanks Guys

This forum never ceases to amaze me. I asked the question and although I knew some of you would have the answer, I didn't think there would be too many people around to reply at this time.

I left my computer for an hour and come back to comprehensive answers - with diagrams and pictures - and a better suggestion for fixing it as well (I'd have used glue )

            Thanks again to you all.

            Cheers

            Julian

Ps I had tried searching for it but missed your earlier one Al

                Supplementary question Guys

How far down should the seal go ?

One of our popular suppliers has given me enough seal to reach down past the door light switch but as it seems the main purpose is to seal against the window frame, should it be cut just below the frame ?

I've got the full length fitted at the moment but I reckon it's holding the door open a bit and making it harder to shut.

                All thoughts gratefully received

                Cheers

                Julian

                  Hi Julian,

It loses its effectiveness just below the window frame, so cut it there. It will make the door harder to close for a while until it finds its correct shape.
