    Which Header Tank?

I can see two potential ways to add a header tank - Wards and Stagweber's conversions.

Costs aside, are there any specific functional advantages to either one? The low level warning could be a clincher? Easier access to plugs?

Can the Hart alternator relocation be used with either of them?
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Wards comes with silicon hoses if you spec it so. The low level sensor would probably win it for me mind you...

I've fitted the stagweber's one. Looks great, easy to fit , and you can also move the alternator as well.

Or nip to a breaker's and get a Volvo header with float switch built in. Should cost about a fiver.

That was my first header tank, cost five quid, if after one of these don't forget to cut out the bracket which can be modified very easily to fit into the stag, worked a treat. I wanted an alloy one for it's looks so changed.

            Volvo H/Tank..

I went the Wards route partly as already had silicon hoses and they supplied same for header tank. Ordered a low level warning switch off ebay and will fit this weekend all being well - looks an easy job as switch is fitted by putting in the hole from outside and then turning the nut tightens the seal on the inside - clever! I asked Mick why they didn't sell a switch with the kit and he advised they looked but couldn't find a switch of high enough spec. I had the spark plugs out easy enough the other day without having to remove the header tank - wasn't difficult using a socket on a long bar.

Fitted a Stagweber header tank some time ago.
All the bits are supplied, easy to install and looks good.
Next job relocate alternator and fit external water pump. All can be done without disturbing header tank.
I like where Singapore Stag has located his on the bulkhead.

I got one out of a Rover 25 for £3.50 but the hoses etc took the fitted cost to the princely sum of £7.50

Are there various alternator relocation kits? I have only so far spotted the Tony Hart version.

E.J.Ward also sell one I think but you will need to also buy a high output alternator too:

EDIT: Looking at the bracket further I do not believe that the Wards kit locates the altenator to where it is with the HRS conversion.

Ihave had the wards tank since they came out. I am well pleased with it. Seems to hold a lot of coolent.
I am very interested to know which level switch you bought on ebay. Can you post the link?

I am also interested to see how you fit. Why not take some pics and add to the how to sections

Hello SwissSteve, yes I'll post some photos once I've done the job. Thinking about it I ordered the switch from "Car Builder Solutions": http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/ but there are loads of similar ones on ebay, my only concern is if the switch is "man" enough for the job - I guess only time will tell.

Sukh gave me his old Volvo one, in my opinion the other route is a little expensive. You could get a header tank from a breakers, elbow for the rad from b&q tee piece from eBay and a bit of hose! Cost me less than a tenner. I have wired my float switch back to my seatbelt warning light and changed the text

I don’t have a header tank at the moment I took it off when I fitted external water pump .but I have moved my alternator using the wards mounting bracket and I had to do a lot of work to the bracket to get it to fit the alternator I E-Mailed them at the time but still waiting for a replay (still it was only 18 months ago )
