    I finally got it

After 2 months and onescrewed up respray I finally got to collect my new Stag.

I bpought the car off Ebay from a guy in Cornwall. It was in a pretty awful state and a horrible brown colour so I decided to have it resprayed in Fushia Metallic, a TVR colour. It turned out pink with black stripes

The new colour is Black Cherry Metallic and it looks fantastic. Black in dull weather (most of the time) but a shimmering red metallic when the sun hits it.

I picked the car up at lunchtime today from the body shop in Liskeard and headed up the A38 through Exeter and onto the M5/M4. There was some wheel wobble at about 60mph but I put that down to wheel balancing. I kept an eye on the temp gauge but is was perfect. Getting braver I switched on the Snooper and pushed the car a little faster. No problems at all. Smooth power delivery and plenty of go.

But, there's always a but. Kick down does not seem to work - any ideas anyone ??

I turned the heating control from hot to cold and promptly got a hot shower on my feet. Turning it back to hot solved the problem but there isobviously a leak somewhere. Is this easy to get to ?

The only other fault was the speedo. The needle flickers about 10mph either side of the speed you are doing.

I was trying to listen for noises but all I could hear was the wind. Can't wait to get the hard top off and the hood down.

Sounds a nice colour (back off Kryten ). Pity you didn't let us know, I would happily have met you at Exeter services to have a chat and a look.

Wheel wobble could be balancing, but could also be a lower ball joint. Worth checking.

The water on the feet was probably from the heater valve. This is a brass thingy just above your left foot. As you move the temperature slider it rotates this valve. It is only one o-ring, but can be a pain to get out. If this is the case let us know and we can tell you how to do it.

Meanwhile leave the right hand slider in the up position when you don't want hot air in the cabin.

Speedo flicker is usually down to poorly routed or lubricated cable. Check how it runs around the steering column area. Any sharp bends should be taken out be re-routing it if possible. To lubricate, undo the cable from the back of the speedo, pull the inner out, and wipe it with light grease as you push it back in. Do not grease the top 3-4" as this may lead to grease getting in the head unit, which you don't want.

    Happy Staggering.

      Hi Dave

Thanks for the advice. Is the heater thingy easy to sort out or do I need to remove the dash.

With regard to the balancing, I am going to fit some period alloys so I'll see if that sorts the wheel wobble. The car has just passed it's MOT so hopefully they would have noted any play in the steering.

I'll try the speedo cable tomorrow and see if that helps.

      Many thanks

      Tony

        Hi Tony

Another Stag in the areashould be able to spot you with that colour.

Water from the heater sounds like a leaking matrix ,if your lucky it could be the o ring in the valve but i would have thought that would leak all the time if it was knackered.lots of past threads on this subject so use the search .

To get the valve out see this thread

Could also be run-out (mis-shapen)on a tyre for the wobble - especially if it's been standing for any time.

Kickdown - make sure the cable is connected of course, and then check that you are getting full throttle - with the engine off get someone to put their foot hard down on the go pedal, and then check manually on the linkage at the carb end that the throttle is going all the way - I would lay odds it's not! Then either adjustthe slack throttle cable, remove excess matting from the driver's footwell, or bend the throttle pedal until you get full bore.....or possibly all 3!
