    Leads on the Alternator

Just refitted the alternator and I was surpised to see in addition to the main 3 pin alternator plug an additional wire with a 1/4" female spade connector in the same cable bundle as the alternater cables.

Any ideawhere thisgoes? I could not see any sensors or cables in the vicinity of the alternator

I had exactly the same problem when I replaced my alternator last year - gave Faversham Classics a ring, they said don't worry, the older alternators used this to power the ignition light - just leave it disconnected it's not needed they said - and they were right!

This is the 'battery sensing' wire, don't worry you don't need it on most modern alternators. ( I know this because I had the same concern when I changed my alternator last year, nowhere to put the spare wire!) Just tape it up out the way so it doesn't short out on the bodywork or anything

If it is just brown with no tracer, it'sa battery sensing lead and can be ignored if you have a machine-sensed alternator.... insulate it off though as it is battery live
