Bronze or brass would be magnificent ! I hate to think what the cost would be. Martin.

Crikey you could get a set machined from stainless steel billet easier. Will cost you a fortune unless you get LOTS made!

I think SOCTFL were looking into these too. I sent them a pattern a while ago so I guess they are on with it at the moment.

on another note I have some brass handles for the side of a blanket box I was supposed to be making for the missus......

an update on the door handle bowl
theres good news and bad to chrome the new bowls £18 to £25 depening where you go,now for the bad bit they cast in brass or bronze, so i thought brass may be to soft for the thread may strip,so had a cost for bronze £ 90 for one and £75 each for both,i asked about making more, thinking the cost would go down, but to make a reuseable mould,he said would push up the inital cost

the tour was good they made heads for an aston martin and wheels for bughatti, it was so tempting to touch the mould with the smoke still coming out, obviously i didn't

another update if any one interested

well ive striped my door handle bowls, rubbed down some of the bits, and they have been sent of to have moulds made, so in a couple of weeks i should have a pair of new door handles, if every thing goes to plan

Those costings sound very reasonable, let us see how well they turn out, steve

The 'original'/last working repro tooling for die cast handles has apparently been bought from a receivers? sale .

They may become available from this tooling again its fair to guess.

I do not know who has the tools but it would be helpful to know what they intend to do.....I paid £90 for a new door handle this year

I thought these were being made by Rimmers for many years and distributed to other suppliers

                    Was indeed the case.

But they have not been available for some months & no word from rimmers except to say there were issues with the tooling.

As I understand it the diecasters who were making them is no longer, the tooling having now been disposed of in a sale (agh)

If anyone knows the whereabouts of the tooling please help!

ps there was a friendly scottish chap who had 2 new ones at stoneleigh (£45 each iirc) i spotted them just after having paid £90 for one!

If anyone does know where the tooling has gone, I'm sure SOCTFL would be interested to know.

                      Cheers

If it is at all of interest to anyone, I can source low volume diecast tooling and castings from China. I was at a diecaster and plater there only three weeks ago, they are happy to do small volumes, as in a couple of hundred.

For the avoidance of doubt, I announce this not because I am interested in making any money from it, solely becasue I am happy to either use or pass on my contacts out there for the benefit of the hobby. Dealing with China is not for the uninitiated...........too many possible pitfalls.

Hi Wilf, I would say contacting SOCTFL direct might be a better bet, they might not pick it up on here. Philip Wardle who is on the forum I believe is in SOCTFL - it might be worth dropping him a PM.
