    heater control valve 'O' ring

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I've just checked the valve and there is a continuos slow drip. I've undone the bottom radiator hose to drain the system but does anyone know Where can I get a replacement 'O' ring?

I like SOC spares , you may find it hard to remove the old cylinder that the O ring goes onto , They have a habbit of sticking , make sure the cylinder is free to move with the new O ring or it may jam and bend the cable or ping off the metal clip to secure the cable .
    Hope this helps.

        Tony,

Quick tip: Don't bother undoing the bottom hose just to drain the system. Catching the coolant is a pain, and most of it ends up your sleeve :X.

Easiest way is to use a length of hose pipe, or similar. Undo the radiator filler cap (assuming you have the Mk2 type radiator). Push the hose down the plug hole to the bottom of the radiator and syphon the coolant into a bucket.

If you do have to remove the radiator for any reason, this ensures that when you undo the bottom hose there is nothing left to soak your arm.

I went to the trouble of getting a drain plug fitted to the rad on my last Stag, but then Peter Howells passed on the above tip and I realised I had wasted the cost of the modification.

My sleeve is drying out nicely but the drives soaking wet. Should have read this first:X

I'll see if Stuart at SOC is still awake and order from him.

          Thaks guys.

If you don't want to drain the system, put a tray under the car, remove the pipes from the heater in the engine bay and plug them (you'll only lose a small amount if you're quick). Hold a shortish length of hose to one of the copper heater pipes and blow - the contents of the matix will come out the other pipe and into the tray thus avoiding it filling your footwell.

                Ah that's brilliant!

Ineed to replace a siezed heater control valvebut have been puttingit off because I thought I'd have to drain the whole cooling system, but not now
