    t-bar

    are t-bars different between mk1 and mk2,

    i have a new cover to fit,can i fit the cover to my spare t-bar and then fit the t-bar to the car, or should i remove the t-bar from the car and cover that one,will i have problems getting the t-bar back on (body movement)

    Hi

    Yes they are different. Mark 2's have the central interior light integral within the T bar where as a Mark 1 has two interior lights positioned in the B post interior covers. If you fitted a mk1 T bar to your mk2 car then you would not have an interior light unless you also swapped over the B post covers like I did.

      when you removed the t-bar did you have any trouble getting it back

        It's not easy I had to use some strops to pull the header rail and T Bar together. I had the windscreen out, much harder with it in.

          Hi Dave

          I had stripped the entire car down to a bare shell so taking it off was easy. Getting it back on when the car was reassembled involved some assistance from my large strong ex army next door neighbour! The front above the screen is easy, the first B post is okay but the second B post was a sod. We finally did it with my neighbour pulling and pushing whilst I fed in the bolt and tightened it up. If you leave the doors on and shut it will probably make it easier to refit where as the doors were off mine at that stage.

          So, okay to do but you will probably require assistance.

              managed to do mine on my own screen was out and doors where on hope your goes as easy as mine dave

                Yep, I've had mine on and off a couple of times without much problem so I reckon it's the luck of the draw.

                  Thanks for the tips guys. I'm planning to replace the covers for the t-bar and b-posts on mine next week. I was thinking of using a ratchet strap between the two b-posts while I remove the t-bar. The only thing I am worried about is that the ends of the "t" in the new cover (from Paddocks) look a bit narrow so I am hoping there is enough stretch.

                    Hi Simon. A strap across the car between the B posts won't do much to help as the issue is the shell arching which move the B posts in a longitudinal direction, not lateral. Can't comment on the Paddock cover as I purchased mine direct from Aldridge and it haf a large surplus at each of the 3 ends which required trimming off. Good luck. Bruce

                      Thanks Bruce, I had assumed that the two sides would spring apart (lol) so won't try that. I read somewhere that jacking up the back can help in refitting the bar.
