    Wiper wash bottle

On my first Stag, 25 years ago, I seem to remember that the wiper wash bottle was fitted with some sort of copper heat exchanger. It took hot air from the engine and heated the water.
25 years later I have have my new Stag and was surprised to see that it was fitted with a simple plastic bottle.
Did I imagine the copper heat exchanger or did it really exist?

I made something similar 20 odd years ago for my Cavalier, it worked too well with super-heated steam blasting out of the washer jets. Unfortunately my prototype leaked and then Spring came and I never took it any further.
Probably the reason I'm not a millionaire.

I think there was an accessory you could buy and self fit ,it used water from the cooling system by fitting an adaptor to one of the hoses. As far as i know not an original fitment. My stag does not have one.

You are right, I remember them.
When my Stag was a daily runner 25 years ago, I wrapped a length of washer tube around the heater pipes, worked well.
infact don't know why something similar is not done today on new cars, warm water was great in the winter to clear mucky screens.

a few years ago when i had a viva, i wrapped the washer tube round the heater pipe, so you would have warm water going to the washer jets

The more I think about it, I am sure it is not my imagination. The wash bottle had a copper heat exchanger in it. It did not have hot water connection, it pulled in hot air from the engine. I never had frozen washers, I just ran the engine for a few minutes and it was thawed out
