I want to top up my automatic transmission. The manual says Castrol TQF (and only Castrol TQF!) but I can't find it anywhere. Can't even find it on Castrol's website. Are there any alternatives that I can use to top up or is there a place that I can get TQF?
Gary
Hi Gary, I believe TQF has gone. Use any known brand of ATF EXCEPTDexron, DO NOT USE DEXRON, it has a higher friction rating and will damage BW auto boxes. Martin.
Now I do not want to start a war here but! Having spoken to JP automatics extensively (who supply parts for BW) assure me that the clutches and the bands they supply are of the modern meterial that is totally compatable with dextron fluid (moreover they reccomend it) Now the reason this came up is, I cannot buy TQF here, knowing my box has been rebuilt by the PO and the chances that he found NOS parts to do that with I settled on using TQD Dextron 11 and nothing has exploded yet. So the question is how many boxes are still running about that have not been rebuilt and have the original lining meterial? I recon about the same amount as asbestos brake shoe linings. Graham
Very true that a number may not be running around on their original 'boxes, but without history it is a risk to take either way, especially if you consider how different Dextron (which has friction modifiers) and ATF to the Ford MSC-33 spec do not have. :
This PDF explains the differences in a round about way.

Hi Graham, mine for a start at 76k. BW 35s and 65s are rarely rebuilt, it's far too expensive, and there's a good supply of serviceable boxes about. As Chas points out, it's not worth the risk. Some years ago I changed to Dexron, in less than 1k it had started to burn, I took advice and changed it before too much damage had been done, I'm happy that it works for you, but I would never advice it's use to anyone else. Martin.
I've not been able to find Castrol TQF for ages and have been using the Comma equivalent without issue but as Chas mentioned there are serveral manufacturers with an equivalent specced product
