Hi I think the "ESS" means its a factory replacement engine.

Definitely factory exchange ending in ESS.
      I have LF3051 ESS.
What I can't work out, is did Triumph just stamp more letters after the original number or did they somehow erase it and start again from LF one?
      Cheers Johny

You could buy the Heritage Certificate for your car and compare the engine number which the car had at "birth" to the one it has now.
        The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Didn't think of that, Drew. I will do that and report back...

I bought a Heritage cert. Quite a nice thing to have, I framed mine and put it on the wall, does that make me a sad git?

As long as you didn't take down your boy's artwork to make space, I think its ok.
