    Recon driveshafts

    Hi,
Having come to the conclusion that I probably have a knackered drive shaft, this was purchased about 15k miles ago as a recon exchange unit

My driving style I would say is average and like to think I look after my car(no traffic light wheel spins).
How many miles do you folks get from a drive shaft UJs etc, what would you say it is fair to expect in terms of lifespan for average driving style no hillclimbs events etc

Also apart from Neil,(Flying farmer) does anyone else change there own UJs got any tips?,(not excluding you from answering Neil)what is the different procedure for peened and circlip?,are they both DIY able?

    Thanks in advance Mark

    Mark.

I don't think the peened over type are a DIY job. I have normal circlip type and did mine with circlip pliers and a soft mallet. I fitted greasable type UJs'

Hi Mark, my old girl's on the originals at 76.000 miles. You'll often see moans on here about poor quality parts, to some extent, it depends on where you buy. Martin.

15k miles is rubbish unless it has taken you 10 years in which case its not too bad.

Not sure , the quote was for coated spline types. It would be brilliant if you could get CV type shafts. Mike

maybe we could all get together to get a quote and club together to get them made .
we could also get made to fit standard hardysplicers so a retro fit for all stags 2500 2000 and trs could be a good market
