Having won over the massive hot misfire that Buttercup presented to me originally by replacing a brand new but faulty HT coil with another brand new but still faulty one, the third coil worked OK.
Today I decided to sort the indicator flasher unit - again a new item was fitted when I bought the car, but it flashed so fast that the bulbs barely had time to glow before they were switched off again.
This morning saw a Halfords new flasher unit fitted, now that flashed every two seconds (too slow - MOT failure!). So I had to get a third one, and that is fine. And of course along the way I had to check (and swap out) every bulb and its connections to eliminate them as any possible cause.
So it seems to me, on the evidence of my experience so far, that all things electrical on this Triumph need 3 new units before they give in and work properly, hence Triumph + Electrics = 3.
I can tell you that as an Honours Degree Electrical Engineer, this is revolutionary stuff and could get me a mention in the IEE dispatches!
Can't wait for the day the starter motor or alternator needs attention.
