    Hi Guys,

    just looking through the original paperwork which came with the Stag, i have pictures from 1977, she has no sill covers fitted? was this an optional extra, i thought they were standard?

    Sill covers were only standard from 'P' reg onwards all others are aftermarket.

          Didn't people used to put them on to hide rotting sills as well as decorative purposes?

          I believe the later Mk2s (as mentioned) came with the covers as standard .

            My P reg (1975) doesn't have sill covers but then having been told for twenty odd years that it should be on alloys I recently found out it was factory supplied with steel wheels and Rostyle type trims. It also has a black tail light panel and there was no other colour underneath when it was bare metalled 20 years ago.

              Just to upset Martin, I will be fitting the sill covers to my MK1 when I get it finished.

              The shot blasting effect of the gravel around these country lanes causes far more rot than damp behind sill covers. My TR has fibreglass front wings, and some years ago when steel wings were affordable I was going to fit one I had repaired.
              When I got below the wings to remove the lower fixing bolts, I found to my dismay, that not only had the red paint disappeared, but also the primer and the layer of stonechip compound between, and I had a nice stripe of white fibreglass directly behind the tyre. This had happened in only 12 months and about 12,000 miles.
              My nice shiney steel wing is still wrapped in a blanket in the loft, and is now worth about half what I paid for the car in the first place

                    Thats because yours was old stock and unsold when the model changed in August 1975 and the start of 'P; reg.

                      Just removed the near side one today funnily enough and the rust that has got into the sill is quite bad, only surface rust but still quite bad.

                      A while back somebody asked if theirs were 'sealed' front and back and mine were with mastic.

                      I'll post pics tomorrow as Internet has been down most of the day and using I pad at the moment.

                      I will probably re fit them when the sills are stripped and repainted as they look better on than off, IMO. Using a flap wheel on a grinder, 'orrible job when laying down!

                          Thanks guys sorry for the late reply, driving, I'm in dagenham now, she is November 76, they are brushed too, not chrome I will add more tomorrow when I get on line

                            back agin chaps, i'm in quandry now, mmmm you are right mart about the rot, i have never had them off so i will check when i get the chance now, also i have a letter from the guy who bought her in 79 from Faberge, his wife called her priscilla, hense the name and my out of line door was there then in the pictures part of her personality too, looks like it could well be staying or should i line it up correctly?
