    oil pressure

Hi Guys done a oil and filter change today using the much recommended VR1 20/50, my question is does the oil really make that much difference on pressure readings? I've used the same type of filter[spin on] as the previous change but the first time for VR1, my oil gauge has always read 25 psi on idle,50psi at running speeds, it now showing 35/40 on idle and around 60ish on normal driving,I have used Castrol or Comma 20/50 what ever has been available previously, does this sound normal?

    Cheers Cliff

Sounds normal for VR1 to me. It was always worth at least 5psi on Yank V8s.

      Hi Cliff,

VR1 often gives a 5-10psi instant improvement and is quite normal.

It's a little bit of Stag paranoia Cliff - perfectly normal As you have the spin on conversion (big plus) make sure you get the filters without the drain back valve, it slows oil uptake, as the filter sits almost upright, there's no need for it. Martin.

Cliff, I did a VR1 transplant a couple of months ago when I got my car home after buying it. Cold idle went from 20 to 40.

            Cheers

What are the correct code numbers for the spin on filters sans drainback valve and where do you source them from? This is a very imminent upgrade for Buttercup - who does the "best" conversion kit?

Hi Wilf, I'd go to Paddock for the conversion. There are quite a few filter manufacturers, I get mine, almost double the normal size, from EJ Wards, It's easy for me, their only 20 miles away and I'm sure there are others (OK Bob ? ) With the non- valve ones, you can see all the way to the bottom, I believe there is a Ford equivalent but be careful of the diameter, any fatter than normal won't fit. Martin.

Do the non-return valve filters still have the bypass valve in them?

Wards only 9 miles from work!
