    Millers OIL

Just ordered 5 LT of Millers 20/50 for £24 Thats a discount of 20% from Woodcote Automotive 01565 653658
They are the poeple in the Millers advert in the June issue of SOC mag.

I think a very good price as I like Millers Oil.

I've just started using Millers 20/50 Classic semi synthetic - instead of VR1 - and I've been well pleased so far.

The only thing was that I bought it before Millers set up their new distribution arrangement and SOC discount, however they did offer me the discount retrospectively. Well impressed

    Cheers

      Hi Julian
I'm always looking to save money on the best product for my Stag. Can you tell me why you choose Millers over VR1? What ate the benefits?
      Thanks

        Hi Steve,

I know VR1 is good and used by lots on here. I first used it when my oil pressure was low, before I did a bottom end rebuild. I didn't notice the significant increase in pressure that's been mentioned by many on here. After my rebuild, I carried on using it and I've found it to be perfectly ok.

However, whilst I like to keep my car original and I understand that some modern things won't be suitable for an old car, I do like the idea of a semi synthetic oil. These oil manufacturers aren't stupid and I can't help thinking that a carefully formulated synthetic oil will have certain advantages over stuff that comes straight out of the ground (sort of )

Equally, I know our engines weren't designed for synthetic oil and so that's why I put my trust in a Company like Millers, who certainly seem to devote a lot of time and effort to classic cars. If they've gone to the trouble to produce a semi synthetic oil, specifically for classic cars, then I'm happy that it will be suitable.

One of the key considerations for me was the cooling effect of oil and in this, I feel that the semi synthetic can have advantages.

So, there you have it - I can't point to any specific and definite improvements that I've experienced and it was a bit of an experiment for me. However, I reckon that it may have given me a tad more oil pressure and a tad more stable engine running temperature but I didn't change for cost reasons. I reckon I paid about the same as VR1, although now you can get that SOC discount on Millers so it may be worth checking the cost with that.

        Cheers

        Julian

VR1 is indeed a racing oil, and does not contain the high dtergent loading of "normal" oils. Hence why it needs changing more frequently. (like 2 - 3000 miles or so)

BUT - it does have high levels of ZDDP - (eliminated from modern oils as it posions catalysts) and that is an anti scuff, anti wear additive perfect for the action of cams over buckets in Stags.

Even modern hi tech full synth oils don't have that, and they have yet to find an equivalent replacement. Most modern engines have roller cam followers, to eliminate this issue.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I am pretty sure I read that Mobil 1 15w50 synthetic oil has 1200ppm ZDDP as its a racing oil.
