    Stromberg chaos

    Hello all,
I'm new to this site . Just decided to put stag back on the road after five years .
Finally got her running beautifully yesterday after many days prep, cleaning out fuel tank and stripping carbs etc etc. took it for a short blast and now its running like a pig. Over fuelling heavily and will barely tick over.
    Diaphragms are good.

    All suggestions welcome

    Thanks in advance

Stuck needle valve or sticking piston would be my guess.
Did you check the pistons for smooth and fast closing

    Cheers Steve

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like it could be some grit under one of the needle valves, I have had that happen on a Triumph 2000 even after cleaning everything out carefully. Another Stag in North wales! Whereabouts are you?

      Brian.
Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!

Pistons are moving nice and smooth and I've stripped and cleaned carbs couple of days ago.
Prob got some dirt in there when I've rebuilt them.
Looks like I'm stripping them down again

        Thanks

          Hi Brian,
I'm guessing your probably correct. Another carb strip and rebuild.

Try the old trick of switching off the fuel pump by pulling up the knob on top of the inertia switch and running the engine until it stops.
Reset the inertia switch and try again. Sometimes the gush of fuel into the empty carb float chamber will dislodge a small bit of grit in the valve, and all will be well again
I used to have this as a regular problem on a holley carb, but I had a security switch that cut off the fuel pump that could be reached from the drivers seat. Once had to drive all the way from Llangollen to Stafford switching the damn pump on and off to keep it running!
