I removed a pinstripe on a car (not a Stag) by gently heating it with her indoors hair dryer, it came of very easily with a bit of heat. Just don't get the paint too hot.
They normally come off ok and Dan's suggestion is a good one.
Critical thing will be how it was applied in the first place - Eg if put on to paint that hadn't fully cured then it might be a problem and these days (although I've not heard of this being done on a Stag) it's not uncommon to have a final clear coat varnish applied and, obviously, if this was done after the pinstripe, then you'd have a problem.
Thanks for the advice - don't think there is a clear coat as the colour is original, will try and build up some courage to use SWMBO's hair dryer - not sure which will be worse, paint starting to bubble or the wife finding out I'm using here hair dryer

I think you will struggle to get the paint hot enough to bubble with a hair dryer. Just don't use a hot air paint stripper gun, that's a different story.
