    Chime

Does anyone know where I can buy a 'chime' style warning noise - like a modern car when you try to get out but have left the lights on? Like a bing or a bong.
The only ones I can find are 'piezo' types that make a nasty very basic buzz.

I've looked everywhere - like maplins etc.
I even bought a door bell system - dissected it for its chime and ended up ruining it.

    Cheers

    Steve

    P.S....

    Tip of the day!
Find that old dated PC/MAC in your attic and remove the CD/DVD part.
Then strip off all the 'extras' the make it 5" etc.
Wire up the eject button to your console extra button.
    Hide it under the dash.
    Press the new button....
Then you have a rolls royce of a cup holder!

No, I have one of these and although it does the job ,it doesn't sound as nice as a 'ding' as it is the 'piezo' type as mentioned.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

        Hi Steve,

I used a 'Durite' buzzer like this which has a nice two-tone warble sound:

You need to wire it like this:
Pin1: Ignition controlled supply (Fuse 4)
        Pin2: Side lights (Fuse 6)
Pin3: Door switch (0V when driver's door open, 12V when door closed)

If you have a MK1 where the door switch circuit is 12V when the door is open you'll need to add a relay to 'invert' this signal. A good place to get at the door switch wire is on the back of the interior light switch, pin2 can be connected to the cigar lighter illumination and pin3 to the green wire under the speaker grille (which is where I housed the relay and buzzer).

The buzzer will sound with the lights ON, the ignition OFF and the driver's door OPEN.

Here is the circuit diagram of my modifications, please note this is for MK1 and ignore the fog lamp circuit.

        Hope this helps,

        Simon

              Oops sorry folks.
In my defence - 1)I felt as if I'd done this before (poor excuse) and 2) I think the links were to USA sites.

              I have another idea.

I wonder if dealer-ship parts departments have anything

e.g., Honda (our main car is a honda with various dings and dongs and pinged and - you get the idea)

After all, it's just 12v to power it.
              Hmmmmmmmm

Am I the only one who can't see the point of a lights left on warning?

I can't leave my Stag without having a last look at it.

No. Too much dumbing down on modern cars such as auto lights, wipers, ABS, ESP, noises for seat bels, etc etc. OK some are safety features but they compensate for lack if skill.

Lets drive our Stags with skill and respect as they are irreplaceable and leave the toys for the moderns.

In my defence (again) I really have left my lights on when parked up - several times (I think thats correct about the dumbing down stuff) - so when I hop from Honda (all facilities set to 'AUTO' (lights, windscreen wipers etc) to Stag (Masses of character in place of buttons) I really have taken things for granted.

Plus I want one for my aluminium expansion tank (currently its that grating piezo noise)

The 'skill' thing is interesting - however you can't have so much skill that the teenager in his fat tires, insurance missing, needlessly loud massive exhaust 1.3 pergout grinding into your pride and joy (superior skills gets you to avoid 3rd party actions but some will be impossible).

Talking of 'pride and joy' I have a courtesy car from a 'mixed dealership'.I handed over my keys for a plastic block for a new Jag. It almost wipes your a***. No keys (you just have to be near it), auto everything! Hand brake? Pfft! you just have to get into D or R and the brakes go off all by themselves.
The ride was smooth and near silent and offered billions of miles per gallon. The diesel engine had bags of power. But even if you switch to flipper manual box, it still overrides your decision if it wants to. Anyway, along my journey I happened to go past an E-type, so - metal and chrome, tough g/box, nothing automatic (including Climate control which was 'window open' on the e-type. I had a big think about what I would have. I realised that once you got used to the gizmos etc 'my' Jag would quickly become sterile and vacuous whereas the E-type had loads of character and a 'personality' even though it would be less performant than 'my' Jag. Of course, and almost naturally, I would go for the E-type 100%.
Just thought I would add that little story into the thread.

Where the Jag changed over the years to what it is now, I wonder -if Triumph were still around (and still selling Stags) what a new 2012 plated Stag would look like. Hmmmm

I'm afraid I disagree with your choice (respectly).

I find all current *German* cars too clinical. My friend has an M3 and my Dad has had German cars - It's not against Germany/Euope etc

I still don't know how I'd picture it. I would like it to follow an Italian route.

                        Look at these comparisons:

                        Classic mini v BMW MINI
                        Classic Fiat 500 v new Fiat 500

I have a classic mini so I could be biased but the Germans got it wrong whereas the Italians got it totally spot on. All opinion of course
(but a 'MINI' thats bigger than an Audi A3 is not very 'mini' is it?)

Time to get photoshop out or something! Hmmm New Stag.....
