    Water leaking still

I still have a water leak into the vee, this is after rebuilding the water pump with a kit from LD so we know its good (didnt use the ceramic seal) new gaskets. I am off to Le Mans on Thursday and I don't have time to rip apart before then because I'm in Edingburgh till Wednesday. I have tried some K seal but it still leaks. I'm really naffed off!!! I'm just going to have to take spare water and hope for the best!!!

Can you tell if its leaking from the inlet manifold or the pump? I'm surprised K seal didn't do the trick.

Hi Jason I had the same problem after buying a reconditioned engine from a fella up near you.The new pump leaked,so I took it out and put in new seals,it still leaked.
It turned out to be the surface area where the pump sat had been badly gouged and the seal didnt stand a hope..Block is scrap..
Hope yours doesnt turn out to be the same thing..

        Hi Jason,

same thing with mine, I changed the thermostat and inlet manifolds gaskets because of a former small leak in the vee and it's still leaking. I'm just back from a 1200 miles trip and just added a 1/2cup of coolant, so it's not that nasty and didn't develop with the miles. Poured some K seal and didn't change anything, so just praying until it stops . I'll be also at Le Mans on Friday, maybe we could talk about leaks while fuelling up with some good ale

Stagdad EWP is the answer for all of you, and will save scrapping a block!

Didn't leak before I "maintained it!!" Hope its not the pump, although the block looked fine to me. Also a leak from the manifold which I have re tightned. When the engine cools I'll have another go at tightening bolts, worried about stripping threads though this close to a long trip!

Don't mind meeting anyone for beers, hope the weather is better than here

I think I may save my pennies and go for stgdads pump later in the year.

            Cheers

Are you running a Stagdad conversion? I shall admit that having the EWP (of the Davies Craig variety) on the Dolly Sprint does put my mind slightly at ease (well, the jackshaft in theory is meant to be seeing an easier time) and the poor heater comments do not seem to apply as badly as I thought (OK, it takes a while to warm up in comparsion to the Stag and may not have the bone melting ability of the Stag either, but it does still get pretty warm ).

Yes, and its very good, I only fitted it out of Stag paranoia and because I can't help but tinker.
Just to be clear EWP stands for external water pump (belt driven) in this case rather than electric.

If Kseal hasn't fixed a small leak it is almost certainly the impeller seal on the pump.
I rebuilt the water pump on the Stag powered estate with a kit from LD, but had to skim the impeller because of corrosion. I obviously made a bad job of it as it pi$$ed water out so quickly I had to run the first 50 or so miles with the pressure cap off the header tank. It has done about 1500 miles now and still leaks but only realy noticeable when stood for a while as the heat of the engine evaporates it when running. hopefully it will eventually stop leaking altogether, as yours might by the time you have been to Le Mans and back

Thanks Neil that gives me a little confidence. I did take the Stag to Barmouth when we had the summer for the weekend (towards the end of May) and although it leaked it wasnt that bad, I've covered 300 miles since putting it back on the road. I have a header tank with switch wired to the dash so a warning at least!!!

There must be something amiss here as i too am going to Le Mans on thursday and sure enough it has devloped a slight water leak and i cant see where from.
I am going to invest in some k seal to take with me and i have added a water container to my ever growing list of stuff to take.
