Top hose leak due to Kenlowe thermostat probe - any solutions?
Top hose leak due to Kenlowe thermostat probe - any solutions?
I've recently fitted a Kenlowe and have the probe situated in the top hose. I've used the special seal that came with the kit but I still can't quite get a good seal - it's only a slight weep but it's frustrating and looks messy. Any solutions?
Thanks.
Hiya, take the hose off the rad, wipe the stub dry, then fit the stat and seating with a couple of tight winds of insulating tape, then replace the hose. Another choice, is that nice black stat housing. Martin.
Don't want to state the obvious, but the special rubber seal that came with the probe has a groove; have you located the probe in that groove? I never had a problem with mine but have since removed the fan and gone back to the viscous coupling, albeit I have a sensor in the rad for future installation of Kenlowe as a backup, (I only had the Kenlowe fitted-no viscous fan).
Or go with what Phil said.
Jeff.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Or just do what I did and tie wrap the probe so it is held hard against the hot tank of the rad (left hand side of the Rad facing forward. A Kenlowe I had years ago worked like that so I just emulated it with my current fan. I'll get you a picture of what I mean at the weekend if you are interested. It works just as well!
Thanks for the advice.
Yes I have one of the grooved red seals.
I've now tried adding an extra hose clip at right angles so will see how that goes - too wet outside to try it tonight - poxy weather!
