    one of lifes mysteries!

Hi all, got the stag out of the garage wednesday after being away for 3 weeks , saw a large pool of antifreeze on the floor from the front of the engine, hoses all less than a month old, no obvious sign of a leaking connection , so topped up the header tank and went for a drive, no overheating, and when i came back i spread newspaper on the garage floor to try to find the leak, 2 days later and the paper is still bone dry!

any suggestions, no water in the "v".

Also I have to change the o/d solenoid as it sticks and Fitchetts are sending a new one free, do I need to drain the gearbox oil first? I know the spitfire J type solenoid needs a special thin spanner, does the stag need it also?
    thanks Derek

Oh yes - 1" AF and about 3mm thick and no more than around 4" long.

As for draining the gearbox, last time I did mine the box was already drained. Oil will come out but I think you'd get away without draining it as the hole is fairly small - be quick and be prepared to get a bit messy

Not sure about your water leak though - mine deposits small amounts of coolant at random into the V - as do many others.

    Cheers

Ps Can you get Fitchetts to send me one free ? I think I'm going to need to change mine soon.

left mine for a weekend only to find a puddle of oil on the floor. After a couple of hours of stag paranoia turns out my mates have indeed got a sense of humour. B'stards.

I just found a leak from the top rad hose on my car. Brand new hoses and hose clamps. It turned out that the new hose clamps (which I think came with the kit from RB) were just not man enough to compress the hose sufficiently. I'd tightened it with a socket and it wouldn't cinch up any more so swopped it for an old clamp and the problem was solved. I'm now going to change the rest of the clamps as the leak was without the system being at pressure.
