Hi all, what a great forum!

I have just aquired my first Stag - 12/76 MK2, original engine & drive train.

My new toy needs a bit of TLC but seems pretty original at this stage apart from colour which has been changed from white to red.

I do have a question that I have been unable to find an answer for.
Being in Australia, I assume that this car was imprted with Emmisssion control systems in place but someone has disconected it all and I can't find anything that will show me where things are supposed to be i.e the anti run on solonoid is hanging by the wires under the power steering pump and is not piped to the carbon cannister. The three pronged oil pressure switch is leaking and I can't find a replacement.

The engine runs really well when hot but very rough on cold start. The carbon cannister has a large outlet at the bottom which, when the engine is hot, if I block it off, the engine will stall. I'm assumimg that this outlet should be piped to anti run on valve. If so, obvously I will need to re adjust all the setting on the carbies.
Do any of you guru's have any info onr Emmssion system plumbing?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Barry,
Welcome to the forum, there are quite a few Aussies on the forum, where abouts are you?
There is a bracket that is bolted to the powersterring pump which holds the anti run on valve/solenoid. I have removed all the emissions equipment from my car, you can then use a standard oil pressure switch and isolate the other two wires. I found it easier to tune the car with the emmisions equipment removed. You should also make sure you have no air leaks in the induction or crank case breathers. I do have some info on the original set up if you want it.
    regards,
    Raoul

Hi Raoul, Thanks for the reply.

      I am in Ballarat, Vic.

I have no issues removing the canister etc but would like advice on what to do with the tank breather. Although I would assume that if I simply blocked the large outlet at the bottom, it would have the same effect as the anti run valve not energising?

      Regards

Work to be done! - Dash pad and console covers. - Wood. - Softop, is brand new but not been opened for 7 years, VERY stiff vinyl.) Might pull cover off & adjust hood frame first.
Damn good engine tune, will do once I get the emmission controls sorted.
        Wish me luck

My tank breather wasn't even connected and was tucked up behind the brake servo! I removed the line from the car and made my fuel tank connections the same
as the non emmision cars. I did the same with the carb connections too. If you have a look at the rimmers website there are some reasonably good diagrams to look at. If you dont have a copy of the factory workshop manual, also known as the ROM, I would advise you to get one. They can be downloaded from the net or are available on ebay.
          regards,
          Raoul

            Thanks again Raoul,

I have the manual so will take a look and set it up that way this weekend.
Can't wait to get this thing on the road although it's 6c and pouring and loks like it will saty that way for next couple of months. Ballarat winters are no fun at all.

I lived in Gisborne Vic for four years, I remember the winters, very happy to be back in FNQ! Ideal Stag weather, 25C in winter!

OK, Ballarat 6 degrees and rain hasn't stopped for four days!
Do you think I can get this thing to idle properly?
Have gone over all the pipes etc and all seem good apart from the fact that the dissy has no port for the vacuum advance?????
It is fitted with an Allison electronic ignition so not sure what is going on here.
Thing starts perfectly from cold, 1100 revs and nice and smooth with choke out.
Once it warms, sits at 1,000, soon as I try and drop the idle speed, just stops. I can't get it to idle under about 900.
Guess it's carbies off and stand in the freezing shed for a couple of hours.

It could be drawing air from somewhere, have a look at the condition of the oring under the carb pedestal, it the felt pad on the dipstick there? Is the oil filler cap sealing properly? Is the brake servo vacuum line in good condition. There is a vacuum port under the air cleaner, is that connected? If there is no vacuum advance line on the distributor, make sure the end where it connects to the carb is blanked.
                  Cheers,
                  Raoul

                    Raul,
Spent this arvo replacing ebery pipe I could find. Still the same. went out to get some wood a min ago, yes, we have to have fire going. Thought, I'll just kick her in the guts again. Interesting, started her on full choke, then pushed it in straight away just holding my foot on the throttle. Ran perfectly. Idicates to me that one carby must be flooding. Yesterday, I lifted the top off both carbs, the needles are both recessed about 2mm, but there is no way I can get them out. Took the grub screw out completely but can't even budge them and I don't want to force too much as I don't have a spare set. I will overhaul them both when I get a chance and report back. Just coming to the realisation that after spending 30 years as a diesel mech, then 15 years out of the trade, how quickly one can lose confidence in what they are doing, hence all these stupid questions! Glad to here that FNQ has beatuifull weather, but I do hate you for that!
